Somehow we blinked and it was 2022, not quite sure where 2020 and 2021 went but here we are nonetheless.
There seems to be a sense of hope this year which is really wonderful. There's been so much sadness, pain and struggle over the last few years but it really does feel like there's a sense of optimism for what this year will bring. Not to negate all the struggles and frankly awful things that have happened, but it feels like there's been a shift on an emotional level, and it's lovely to feel.
In the spirit of that, I wanted to take a minute to outline my hopes for Greymalkins this year, and potentially what you'll see popping up on the site through the course of the year.
Number one is saving for a new kiln! Last year I was lucky enough to buy my own kiln (her name is Mildred and I love her deeply) but Greys has grown more than I could have hoped and honestly I'm struggling to keep up with demand. She's magical but she's small. So first and foremost I'm slowly starting to squirrel away for a larger kiln. This may take a few years-they're incredibly expensive-but we'll get there!
Product-wise I have so many things I want to make! Ceramics will always be the number one here but I'm a tinkerer of note and am always making new things. As always I'd love to hear what it is that you'd like to see, but from my side, I have a few projects I really want to get off the ground.
Here's the aspirational list! (Some of which will launch when studio reopens on the 15th, others will start to appear through the course of the year)
-Tote bags
-Prints
-More sticker designs
-More candles
-Stationery
-Vases
-Jewellery
-A colouring book (and maybe a dot to dot book)
-DIY craft kits (starting with macrame hangers)
So not much then...
It's hard to put into words how much I love this business so really want to convey that through what's on offer.
If there is anything you'd like to see, or even if you have suggestions for things like prints or stickers you think would be fun, I'd love to hear from you. You can pop us a message on Instagram at greymalkins_za or an email to info@greymalkins.com
So here's to this year, and thank you for being on this journey with me. I have a feeling it's going to be a wild ride so let's go on it together.
